Pittsburgh Premiere Was Packed!

Dear Friends of “The Power of One Voice,”

I’m overjoyed to report that the Pittsburgh Premiere of “The Power of One Voice” was filled to the brim with eager filmgoers, chomping at the bit (not to mention a whole lot of great food) to learn from and be inspired by the story of Rachel Carson. I have to send out a huge thanks to all the people who showed up and helped out to make this event go so smoothly, and with such enthusiasm. It truly was an evening of abundance. Details below…

We received the official Mayoral certification of having a “real event” when Mayor Bill Peduto showed up to meet and greet the crowd. He also shared a number of interesting facts about Rachel Carson as he helped us introduce the film. I found that he filled in some gaps in the story that I had to leave out, so it was great that he shared the information with the crowd! From left to right, there is Cheryl Tracy and Robert Mulvihill with the National Aviary, Mayor Bill Peduto, Patricia DeMarco (the film’s Executive Producer), and me, Mark Dixon (the film’s Director/Producer).

There was abundant, delicious vegetarian food for the chomping, and a beautiful greeting owl was on display for the guests to “meet” (from a few feet away. 😉 )

Plenty of friends and family were in attendance. Top we find Patricia DeMarco and Terry Collins (CMU). Center we have me and my sister, Christina Dixon. At the bottom my wife (left) Christine Benner Dixon, and Marie Fechik-Kirk, who both checked people in at the door while selling DVDs and screening licenses. I’m not sure what we would have done without that dynamic duo at the door!

The crowd filled in every seat as far as I could tell, though there might have been one or two hidden beneath a coat. The strange semi-icy weather proved no match for the environmental passions of these Pittsburghers! (And several people came in from way outside of Pittsburgh!)

We all took turns introducing the Aviary, our various projects and thanks to the audience, and then the Mayor kicked off the film…

The title screen of the film comes from a trip I took to Lake Champlain, VT to visit my brother, quite possibly the greenest guy I know.

We took questions for a while after the film before sending everybody safely (!) home through the icy rain! There were so many beautiful encounters last night with so many friendly, caring, passionate people that even the pile of photos above will never entirely do it all justice. The Aviary staff and venue was phenomenal and I couldn’t have asked for more. Huge props to Steeltown Entertainment Project and Carl Kurlander for supporting me and this project through the years. And I can’t sign off without mentioning how wonderful it has been to work closely with Patricia DeMarco on this film since day one. She has a gift for working in the environmental arena and I can’t wait to see her book when it comes out (soon-ish!). And thanks again to all my old and new friends who joined the festivities. I’ll see you down the road!

All the best,
Mark Dixon
